Keep the magic

I still remember the feeling of betrayal when I discovered that my parents had lied to me about Father Christmas. It was almost as bad as the time when I found my first toadstool. It was as if the bottom had fallen out of my young life when I could see no little window or doorway. Such harsh lessons can cause some children to see the world as a place of cold factual reality, with all that's magical banished as childhood fantasy. This is such a pity as the universe we inhabit is full of wonder and unfathomable mystery. It's all around us. We must keep that sense of wonder! It will enrich our lives and those around us.

Isn't that why we tell stories? To make sure there is still something magic in the world to look towards? Dreams keep us sane, and without magic, without the unknown, there are no dreams.
